Vanessa Nica Mueller

Vanessa Nica Mueller is an independent Filmmaker and Visual Artist based in Hamburg, Germany. Her short films (Plateau, Halbe Nacht, Traces of an Elephant) were shown at international film festivals and in the context of art exhibitions. Landen is her first feature-length film, which had its Premiere at the International Rotterdam Film Festival 2023. Besides producing and editing her films, she develops video installations and curates film screenings. She has ten years of experience in film education and lecturing in different contexts.

Vanessa Nica Mueller has German and East African heritage.
In her films, she deals with questions of memory, the human being about urban space and nature, the uncanny and cinematic construction of inner states, and the tension between familiarity and alienation, identity and attributions. She spans the arc from inner navigations to the third space.
She is interested in the intersection of external and internal climatic changes in her artistic research on fragile ecosystems.
Taking research and experimentation as a starting point, she creates essay films and video installations that always contain an openness and fragile poetics at the interface between staging and observation.
