Jori Kehn (b. 1996) is an interdisciplinary artist and designer based in Hamburg. Her work centers around electronic apparatuses she constructs to explore and approximate her environment. Sound and movement are recurring motifs in her often installation-based projects, which she views as a process of “mending together” scientific abstraction, animism and disassociation, social construction, and the boundaries and extensions of the human body. Drawing from her background in textiles, Kehn approaches mending as a form of repair under tension—a process that highlights damage by connecting disparate pieces. For her, mending is an act of restoration and a paradoxical repair, achieved by merging distinctly separate or contradictory elements into a cohesive whole.

Ausgehend von ihrem Hintergrund in der Textilbranche betrachtet Kehn das Flicken als eine Form der Reparatur unter Spannung – ein Prozess, der Schäden hervorhebt, indem er disparate Teile miteinander verbindet. Für sie ist das Flicken nicht nur ein Akt der Wiederherstellung, sondern eine paradoxe Reparatur, die durch die Verschmelzung deutlich getrennter oder widersprüchlicher Elemente zu einem zusammenhängenden Ganzen erreicht wird.

The project fight flight fawn freeze explores the nervous system as a visceral archive in between layers of(inter)personal experience and (hyper)realities. It revolves around suites of sensors designed to pick upbioelectric signals of the nervous system – brain waves and the rhythms of breath and heartbeat- and relay them as sound.

Das Projekt „fight flight fawn freeze“ erforscht das Nervensystem als viszerales Archiv zwischen Schichten(inter)persönlicher Erfahrung und (Hyper)realitäten. Es dreht sich um eine Reihe von Sensoren, die bioelektrische Signale des Nervensystems – Gehirnwellen, Atem- und Herzschlagrhythmen – aufnehmen und als Klang weitergeben.
