Jan Derk Diekema (1981) is a Groningen-based research artist. He works interdisciplinary with film, photography, writing, and research as art forms. In current works, he uses urban landscape structures to observe how communities, connections, and networks work as part of more extensive systems that function across cities or neighborhoods. His recent work focuses on Port Cities and their overseas and hinterland connections. Fascinating and distinctive qualities of these types of cities sum up in topics such as trade, immigration, mobility, and industry, among other discontents of circulation. It catches him how they echo back and forth within a triangle of locations with their own culture and circumstances.
