Matching Aesthetics aims to understand differences as a source of artistic practice that makes the unique aesthetics of Mongolian contemporary art accessible to a broad art-interested audience in Hamburg. Together with Hamburg artists, our guests will explore the art and cultural landscape of the port city of Hamburg and focus on their perspectives on contemporary art in various formats.

HyCP is a collaborative project of artists, philosophers, and other cultural activists. Our project aims to view culturality as an exchange of local and global discourses. The metaphors of the passenger and the hyperlink open up associative and content-related cultural connections explored with the means of art: Possibilities of a critical sense of community that we want to investigate and develop further. To this end, we put our approaches up for discussion. HyCP has been running artist-in-residence projects for ten years. Together with global partners, we have connected artists from Japan, China, South Korea, India, Jordan, Israel, Turkey, the Netherlands, Finland, Iceland and the USA with Hamburg’s cultural landscape. https://www.hyperculturalpassengers.org

For the residency, we are looking for two artists who work with different media and artistic strategies and are interested in directly exchanging with colleagues from Hamburg. During the residency, collaborative approaches will be developed in and with the immediate neighborhood and presented in the exhibition. All forms of design are welcome. A good command of written and spoken English is required.

We offer the artists accommodation, flights, and daily allowances. The Goethe-Institut Mongolia and the Hamburg Department of Culture are supporting the project. A jury of HyPC e.V. members and the Goethe-Institut Mongolia will select the artists from the applications.

Please send your application in English, consisting of a CV, work samples, and a letter of motivation in which you express your interest in the Matching Aesthetics project, as a PDF file with a maximum size of 6 MB
