Projects from Aarhus meet projects from Hamburg in order to experience the similarity and relationship of each other’s aesthetic approaches in their particular differences. All projects have in common a transdisciplinary orientation and an impact in the various fields of the social. We would like to learn with and from each other how strategies in solidarity in the field of international art and cultural exchange can develop new forms that reflect appropriately the problems of our time. The question pursues a critical consideration of the supposedly generally accepted concept of “we”.

AMITABH KUMAR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE – HAMBURG-INDIA-WEEK 2019
HyCP VEDDEL SPACE – OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2019 – EXHIBITION, WORKSHOP AND PUBLIC ARTIST DINNER, A COLLABORATION WITH HEIDI SALAVERRÍA, TORSTEN BRUCH, MICHAEL KRESS AND CHRISDIAN WITTENBURG
In everyday understanding “culture” as a term is often equated with identity. One’s own familiar identity, that which is not foreign, is being understood as a fixed canon representing universal values. If other cultures are being viewed from this fixed perspective, as a consequence they are being isolated as something alien.

Facing inside out –
RAHEL BRUNS
A PORT JOURNEY EXCHANGE EXCHANGE HAMBURG > YOKOHAMA
Using the big windows of ZOU-NO-HANA TERRACE as screens, Rahel Bruns transforms the surface of the building to a medium which turns it inside out and vice versa as well as the private to the public and individual to the political recognition of our faces as a statement. This resumes us to intensive actions of social, cultural and psychological negotiations. At the same time Rahel Bruns brings up various questions, such as of the history of the portrait itself and also of contemporary issues like digitalization, social media and the phenomenon of the individual.

Soup – Tasting river water / Miku Sato (Yokohama)
Artist in Residence – A Port Journey Exchange with Zounohana Terrace/Yokohama
All rivers are connected to the ocean. We all share the ocean with all creatures on earth. The human life, various cultures, histories and also battles began in waterside, and our ancestors lived a simple way of life when people didn’t have any borders of countries.

Artist in Residence – A Port Journey Exchange with FORUM BOX Helsinki and FRISE Hamburg. November/December 2017
“My current paintings take us into the midst of the plastic soup that we swim in. The sky is still blue, but we are choking in the useless material boiling away in our seas and on our shores. We let it go down the drain. (…)”

Linked Angles –
Artist Conversations on Cultural Emancipation
WITH ANISH AHLUWALIA, ANDREA BECKER-WEIMANN AND ANKE MELLIN FOR THE HAMBURG INDIA WEEK 2017
The project invites artists from India and Hamburg to focus on the singular cultural perspectives of the other. It investigates a broader concept of culturality, which encompasses similarities and closeness rather than difference and distance. The process of emancipation is being understood as an unconstrained interest in otherness by universally acting subjects.

Clemence Roudil – Latent front – the burnt rocks, the dikes and the grids
FRISE Artists In Residence – August 2017
This is where it begins. Drawn to the center between the peripheries of land and water, we enter into a strange ceremony of fearful fascination, automatic administration of clearcut chaos, a deep void of wild autonomous capitalism. Aborted commitment of open doors to the world, we turn around, turn again and again, finding no entrance, no exit, we adhere to the front.

Niklas Hausser
HYPER CULTURAL MESSENGER – ITALIEN
